The invention is directed to a composition having a carrier and a luminescent chelate wherein the lanthanide chelate being a lanthanide and a ligand wherein the ligand being represented by the formula wherein R1 is alkyl, aryl, or heteroaryl; and R2 is alkyl, aminoalkyl, aryl or heteroaryl. The invention is further directed to a process for coating articles.
