<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substrate for a liquid crystal display device, the substrate capable of optimizing color viewing angles and contrast of a liquid crystal display device in a vertically aligned (VA) mode, an in-plane switching (IPS) mode or the like when the substrate is used for such a liquid crystal display device. <P>SOLUTION: The substrate for a liquid crystal display device includes a substrate, a color filter layer 13 having regions of three colors R, G, B, and a uniaxial optical anisotropic layer 15 having the optical axis within the plane and patterned into regions having front retardations Re(R), Re(G) and Re(B) corresponding to the respective color regions, and the substrate satisfies expression (1):¾Re(R)-Re(G)¾<¾Re(G)-Re(B)¾. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
