PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve mechanical strength of an Nb<SB>3</SB>Sn superconducting wire produced by the internal diffusion method to exhibit its excellent superconducting properties, and to provide: the Nb<SB>3</SB>Sn superconducting wire produced by internal diffusion method which exceeds a conventional one manufactured by bronze method in both sides of superconducting properties and strength; and its precursors. SOLUTION: A multi-element wire is configured by bundling a plurality of mono-element wire including: a Sn or Sn-based alloy core arranged in the center thereof; a matrix of Cu or Cu-based alloy arranged around the alloy core; and a plurality of Nb or Nb-based alloy filaments also arranged around the alloycore, wherein part of the mono-element wire is replaced with a reinforcing element wire in which a rod-like reinforcing member made of one or more metals or alloys selected from a group of Nb, Ta, Ti, W, Mo, and Hf is embedded in the Cu or Cu-based alloy, and further the cross-section area of the rod-like strengthened member accounts for 2 to 25% to the total of that of wires.
