PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector having a discharge light emission type light source device, and capable of stably keeping the shapes of a pair of electrodes by repairing tip parts of the pair of electrodes one by one, and of keeping an objective light emission state. SOLUTION: In a repair mode, a light source drive device 70 melts a projecting tip part 15a extending from a body part 15b and a tip-side region 15g of one electrode, e.g. a first electrode 15, large in damage out of a first electrode 15 and a second electrode 16, and newly builds a tip part 15a large in thermal capacity and having a large contact area with the body part 15b on the first electrode 15, whereby the projecting position of the tip part 15a formed on the first electrode 15, and its shape can be kept over a long time. That is to say, arcs can be stably generated between the repaired tip parts 15a and 16a over a long term, and thereby a high-quality projection image can be kept over a long term.
