PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide optical glasses in a composition range with which the desired optical properties can be achieved, while based on ecological considerations no PbO and if possible neither As<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, Bi<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>and Li<SB>2</SB>O, and preferably nor TiO<SB>2</SB>, is applied. SOLUTION: The present invention refers to optical glasses designated to be used in the areas of imaging, sensors, microscopy, medical technology, digital projection, telecommunications, optical communications engineering and optics/illumination in the automotive sector with a refractive index of 1.60 to 1.72 and/or an Abbe number of 32 to 45 with pronounced short flint character, good chemical resistance, excellent resistance to crystallization, good solarization stability and the following composition (in% by mass based on oxides): SiO<SB>2</SB>30 to 45, B<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>8 to 12, Na<SB>2</SB>O 8 to 15, CaO 0.1 to 7, ZnO 0 to 5, ZrO<SB>2</SB>10 to 20, Nb<SB>2</SB>O<SB>5</SB>12 to 24, Ta<SB>2</SB>O<SB>5</SB>0 to 9 and AgO 0 to 5.
