PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique which enables a transmission source of a mail to confirm the reception of the mail by a transfer destination in a mail transfer apparatus for transferring the mail received from the transmission source to the transfer destination. SOLUTION: In transmitting a mail M1 to a slave unit 2, a master unit 1 requests the slave unit 2 to send disposition notification to the master unit 1. In transferring a mail M2 from the slave unit 2 to a sub-slave unit 4, the slave unit 2 requests the sub-slave unit 3 to send disposition notification to the master unit 1 and the slave unit 2. Thereby, the master unit 1 and the slave unit 2 can confirm whether the sub-slave unit 3 can receive the mail M2 or not. Further, the slave unit 2 omits load for notifying the master unit 1 whether the mail M2 can be transferred to the sub-slave unit 3 or not. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
