PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk device which can select an advantageous rotation control system, based on various parameters such as a recording method and a playback mode besides contents of data and a recording format recorded in an optical disk. SOLUTION: The optical disk device is equipped with: a motor rotating an optical disk; a motor control part controlling rotation by one of a CLV system in which linear velocity is constant and a CAV system in which angular velocity is constant; a playback part playing back the optical disk; and a system selecting part which reads at least one of the recording format and the recording system of the optical disk, and selects one of the CLV system and the CAV system, based on frequency of seek operation moving striding over a plurality of tracks.
