PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information recording/reproducing apparatus capable of efficiently using the storage capacity of a recording medium and fulfilling user's demand for higher image quality. SOLUTION: An information recording apparatus is equipped with: a high-vision broadcast reception part 101 for acquiring content information of a first information format; an SD signal generation part 110 for converting the content information into a second information format; a calculation part 109 which calculates, on the basis of the recording-possible capacity of a HDD10 and the total information capacity of the content information, a recording time for recording the content information of the first information format into the HDD10 and a recording time for recording the content information of the second information format into the HDD10; and a system control part 115 which records, on the basis of the calculated recording time, the content information of the respective format into the HDD10.
