<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode structure capable of improving excitation efficiency in an edge mode piezoelectric vibration chip. <P>SOLUTION: On each front and rear of one longitudinal end 23 in an edge mode quartz vibration chip 21, first and fourth excitation electrodes 24a, 25b, and second and third excitation electrodes 24b, 25b are formed. The first and fourth excitation electrodes 24a, 25b correspond to a positive charge region of induction charge distribution. The second and third excitation electrodes 24b, 25b correspond to a negative charge region. The first and fourth excitation electrodes are connected to the same pole, and the second and third excitation electrodes are connected to the same pole but a pole different from that of the first and fourth excitation electrodes. A prescribed current is applied between respective opposing pairs of excitation electrodes, a reverse electric field is generated in the thickness direction of the quartz vibration chip in respective pairs, and an edge mode is vibrated. An electrode area becomes twice larger than that of a conventional quartz vibration chip having a floating electrode, thus increasing the strength of the electric field, increasing the excitation efficiency of the quartz vibration chip sharply, and obtaining stable vibration. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
