<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester suitably used for a pressure-sensitive adhesive composition for a pressure-sensitive adhesion to be used to laminate a polarizing film onto a glass substrate for liquid crystal cell, capable of forming an adhesive layer having satisfactory optical characteristic (transparency), heat resistance, moist heat resistance, satisfactory stress relaxation property, controllability of refractive index, re-releasability and the like. <P>SOLUTION: The polyester is obtained by reacting a COOH-based component including an aromatic dicarboxylic acid-based component but no dimeric acid with an OH component including a straight chain aliphatic diol having 4 or more carbon atoms between hydroxyl groups, represented by the general formula (1), a diol having alkyl group in a side chain, represented by the general formula (2) and/or a diol having alkyl group in a side chains represented by the general formula (3), another diol having alkyl group in a side chain, and a compound having three or more hydroxyl groups.
