PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thinner liquid crystal display. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal panel 120, a light guide plate 121 provided on the rear surface of the liquid crystal panel 120 and a pair of LED mounting substrates 123 on the right and left side surface of the light guide plate 121 are disposed. Recessed parts 101f are provided on the outer sides of side surfaces of heat sinks 101 connected to LED non-mounted surfaces of the LED mounting substrates 123 and LED driving circuits 125 are disposed in the recessed parts. Each of the LED driving circuits 125 includes a plurality of LEDs 124 connected in series and has a plurality of lines connected in parallel, an on/off controller and a current measuring means for measuring values of current flowing in the lines. The lines are constituted by connecting switches, in series, turning on/off current flowing in the LEDs, a fixed voltage is applied by a fixed voltage source and the on/off controller controls on/off periods of the switches of the lines based on the current values of the respective lines measured by the current measuring means.
