PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable ultraviolet radiation containing a specific wavelength region to be detected and to be checked without monitoring the history of detectiion of the ultraviolet radiation at all times, and to enable a reuse by heating an ultraviolet sensitive part, after detecting the ultraviolet radiation. SOLUTION: An ultraviolet detector is equipped with a ultraviolet sensitive part 11 which is made of an MgO-sintered pellet 11a, having purity of 99.0% or higher, and is sensitive to the ultraviolet radiation, and whose surface is covered by a protective layer 11b; a support 12 for supporting the ultraviolet sensitive part 11; and a heater 13 for heating the ultraviolet sensitive part 11. The heating temperature by the heater is, preferably, 100-600°C. The irradiation intensity of the ultraviolet radiation, to which the detector is sensitive, is 0.1-1,000 mW/cm<SP>2</SP>, and the amount of irradiation thereof is 15-1,000 mJ/cm<SP>2</SP>.
