PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an overflow prevention method for compressing an output signal by applying multi-stage correction processing on the basis of a plurality of thresholds to the output signal so that the digitally processed output signal may not be overflowed and to provide a digital signal processing apparatus using the method. SOLUTION: The overflow prevention method, which is executed by using the digital signal processing apparatus provided with an acoustic processing means for executing the processing of an acoustic signal composed of a digital signal, a level judgment processing means for judging an output level of the processed digital signal for each sample and an output correction processing means for executing correction processing according to the judged result, includes: a step in which the acoustic processing means executes acoustic processing of the digital signal in each sample; a step in which the level judgment means judges a volume level of one sample; and a step in which the output correction processing means multiplies the volume level of one sample by a coefficient corresponding to the judged result.
