A detector unit (1b) associated with analysis circuitry, is fastened to the vehicle body at a predetermined location. A second detector unit (2b) is fastened to the body in a different location. A comparator unit (2c) determines any difference in the angle of inclination indicated by each of the detector units. This is compared with a previously-recorded value, to see whether it is exceeded. If so, an alarm (5) is given.
