PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for continuously sheathing a ply of threads with a thermoplastic or visco-elastic material. SOLUTION: The ply is formed by an array of mutually sub-parallel threads (F). A sheathing device comprises a thread guide (35), a coating chamber (31) and an output die (32). A first feed channel (10) and a second feed channel (20) extend into the coating chamber. The ply of threads (F) travels through the thread guide, the coating chamber and the output die while at the time of sheathing device operation. Pressure-measuring means (12, 22) which is connected to a controller (40) and controls the pressure of each of the feed means (13, 23), are placed in the coating chamber (31) facing and in line with each other, on either side of the plane of the ply and in the immediate vicinity of the outlets (11, 21) for the feed channels (10, 20).
