PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detection machine for a magnetic leakage flux in which its probe can be prevented from being damaged, and to provide its control method. SOLUTION: This control method includes: (1) the process in which event signal is issued from flaw detection signal transmitted by a probe of the flux detection machine for the magnetic leakage capable of detecting a surface crack of a metal barstock by magnetic leakage flux (STEP 5); (2) the process in which transmissions of this event signal are counted (STEP 6); and (3) the process in which a status of this probe is judged from this dispatch frequency (STEP 7). Additionally, this flux detection machine for the magnetic leakage provides: an exciting coil which can excite the metal barstock; the probe which can transmit the flaw detection signal by detecting the magnetic leakage flux; a counter which can count the dispatch frequency of the event signal issued from this flaw detection signal; and an arithmetic unit which can judge the status of this probe from this transmission count. Furthermore, in this control method, a burden of operator can be reduced, and a damage of the probe can be effectively prevented. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
