PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-based coating for wood which is free of an organic solvent as a solvent for an oil and fat and having high safety for human bodies and performances equal to those of a solvent type oil-based coating. SOLUTION: The water-based coating is composed of an aqueous dispersion made from a vegetable oil as a raw material and an additive. The aqueous dispersion is obtained by emulsifying 100 pts.wt. of an oil and fat composed of a processed oil obtained by treating the vegetable oil (except the oil in which an organic solvent is added) in water with 3.3-15 pts.wt. of a surfactant. The oil and fat used herein is a film-forming component and is the processed oil obtained by treating the vegetable oil (except the oil in which the organic solvent is added).
