<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a skin beautifying agent having excellent all-around skin-beautifying effects such as high safety, prevention of skin drabness, chapped skin and stains and improvement in wrinkles, and to provide a skin care preparation having a skin-beautifying effect, a cosmetic, a bath medicine and a detergent. <P>SOLUTION: The agent includes a carotenoid and a sphingolipid. The carotenoid is preferably a cryptoxanthin. The carotenoid and/or the sphingolipid is preferably derived from one or more plants selected from the group consisting of a plant of citrus fruit, a persimmon, Eriobotrya japonica, mango, papaya, red bell pepper and Guinea pepper.
