PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for detecting a cooling airflow capable of detecting cooling air stably without depending on power of cooling air, obtaining an effect for preventing the occurrence of error in the detection due to dust, and coping with all kinds of cooling fans in a limited scope of used air velocity, and to provide a projection type image display device using the same. SOLUTION: The device is constituted by forming an adjusting hole 17a communicating both sides of a mounting wall 17 mutually and provided with an air quantity sensor 18 in the mounting wall 17 provided with a ventilation port 16 and the cooling fan to adjust size of the adjusting hole 17a and let a value detected by the air quantity sensor 18 correspond to the airflow of the cooling fan.
