<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline battery in which a metal compound to precipitate a metal at discharge is contained in a positive electrode active material using manganese dioxide as a main component, in which discharge performance is improved without increasing costs. <P>SOLUTION: In the alkaline battery using a positive electrode active material using manganese dioxide as a main component, the metal compound which precipitates a metal as a single substance by discharge reaction is contained by ≥2 wt.% to <50 wt.% in the positive electrode active material.
