PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure high detection preciseness of forward/backward forces by reducing influence of noise and to continue detection of a forward/backward force even when any of strain sensors has a malfunction. SOLUTION: At least two strain sensors are attached to a side wall section 3. This detection method includes a stain measurement step of acquiring a strain output by each strain sensor by concurrently measuring a surface strain of a tire by means of each of the strain sensors, a forward/backward force computing step of computing a forward/backward force by each strain sensor according to the strain output, a strain output discrimination step of discriminating a normal strain output by comparing the strain output of each strain sensor with a preset normal strain output range, and a forward/backward force correction step of correcting the forward/backward force by averaging only the normal forward/backward forces obtained by computing the normal strain outputs in the forward/backward forces computed in the forward/backward force computing step.
