PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper quality improving agent giving a bulky paper capable of suppressing the absorption of a coating liquid. SOLUTION: The paper quality improving agent is composed of a reaction product obtained by reacting (a) an amine compound composed mainly of a polyalkylene polyamine with (b) a 12-40C saturated fatty acid and reacting the obtained amide compound with (c) epichlorohydrin, provided that the equivalent of the amide group, the equivalent of the amino group, the equivalent of the chloride ion and the equivalent of total chlorine satisfy a specific relationship.
