The smart card (1) has an interface device (3) for providing a communication connection to another smart card (7) over a transmitting medium (M1, M2). A control device (2) provides a communication connection to the smart card (7) over the interface device and the transmitting medium. The interface device has a set of contact areas, and an electrical contact is produced between the contact areas of the smart card (1) and the smart card (7). The control device is configured to produce a request protocol of a smart card reader. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a coupling device for mechanically connecting contact areas of two smart cards (2) a method for data exchange between two smart cards.
