The invention relates to a valve-type electric machine comprising a salient-pole rotor provided with the even number of poles and an excitation system consisting of two permanent magnets which are arranged at an angle to each other, the summit of said angle being directed away from a working gap, and a salient-pole stator the number of poles of which differs from the number of poles of the rotor, each pole of the stator being encompassed by an identical coil. Said machine differs in that the permanent magnets of each pole are substantially in contact with each other by the ridges of unipolar faces, the angle between the permanent magnets is of the order of ninety degrees and the areas of the rotor adjacent to the faces of the permanent magnets, which are parallel to the direction of magnetisation and are oriented away from the working gap, and the areas of the rotor between the adjacent poles of the rotor adjacent to the faces of permanent magnets, which are oriented towards the working gap and are parallel to the direction of magnetisation, are made of a nonmagnetic material. The machine can be provided with the even or uneven number of the rotor poles which interact with one group of the stator coils, respectively, the polarities of the stator poles formed by coils belonging to one phase and oriented towards the rotor can be like or unlike.
