PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately determine restoration timing of the DPF by measuring a particulate material entering a diesel particulate filter (DPF) and the particulate material leaking from the DPF.
SOLUTION: An integrated DPF loading and failure sensor has two particulate material sensors, one sensor is located upstream in the filter, and the other sensor is located downstream in the filter. The sensors are integrated into the front edge and the rear edge of the filter. Integrating two particulate material sensors with the DPF can allow a proper interval between restoration of the DPF, since the particulate material collected in the filter is measured and not estimated. The upstream sensor determines the amount of particulate materials entering the filter. In addition to using the first sensor for loading, the second sensor at the trailing face of the filter can be used to determine break-through of the DPF. The second sensor measures the particulate material leaking from the filter.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
