PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a gas barrier laminate which has a polymer layer being an essentially single layer and exhibiting excellent gas barrier property and has more improved characteristics without passing through a complicated immersing step. SOLUTION: A method of manufacturing the gas barrier laminate includes the following steps 1-3: a step 1 for forming a coating film by applying a polymerizable composition on a base material (1), the polymerizable composition containing anα,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer (A), a polyvalent metal ion (B) in the quantity required to neutralize 10-90% of theα,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer (A) and at least one kind of a hydrolyzable metallic compound (C) containing a metallic atom bonded with at least on specific group selected from halogen atom and alkoxyl group; a step 2 for polymerizing the coating film of the polymerizable composition to form the polymer layer containing an inorganic material originating from the hydrolyzable metallic compound (C) and an ion-cross-linked polycarboxylic acid base polymer; and a step 3 for heat-treating the polymer layer formed in the step 2 at 50-400°C to form a gas barrier layer.
