A safety block for capping a haulage, guiding or other load bearing wire rope comprises an outer sleeve 1 with a tapered bore, a wedge 3, means spacing strands of the rope about the wedge 3, and means rotatable with respect to the wedge and the outer sleeve for advancing the wedge into the tapered bore. A bolt 7 in a cap 5 screwed on to the sleeve 1 presses on a flange 4, grooved to accommodate the rope strands, of the wedge 3 to trap the laidoff ends 9 of the rope firmly. Spacing wedges may be driven between the laid-off ends 9 so that they are circumferentially spaced along the wedge. |
