1,193,537. Vinyl esters. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 26 Feb., 1968 [25 Feb., 1967], No. 9161/68. Heading C2C. A mixture of a vinyl ester of the formula CH 2 = CH-O-CO-R 1 , in which R is an alkyl radical containing up to 12 carbon atoms, and a carboxylic acid of the formula RCOOH on which the ester is based, is separated from a hot gaseous mixture comprising the vinyl ester and the carboxylic acid in a molar ratio within the range of from 1: 3 to 1: 10, by a process which comprises partially condensing the gaseous mixture in a column and removing the condensed portion containing a part of the carboxylic acid which is substantially free from vinyl ester from the sump of the column, and a mixture of the vinyl ester with the carboxylic acid, in which the molar ratio of vinyl ester to carboxylic acid is greater than in the starting gas mixture, from the head of the column. |
