A solid composition for generating hydrogen is provided to a solid borohydride-containing formulation for generating the hydrogen in a fuel battery. A solid composition for generating hydrogen comprises one or more metal hydride compounds of 52 weight% - 80 weight%, one or more borohydride compounds of 15 weight% - 42 weight% and one of 1 weight% - 15 weight% of a transition metal halide and a transition metal boride.
