In a process for inhibiting aluminium in alkaline solns., one adds to the soln. polyacrylic acids with a specific viscosity of 0.07-0.90, or a water-soluble salt of such an acid. The attack of the alkaline solns on the aluminium is retarded. Formation of deposits and crusts, as occurs with the known alkali silicate inhibitors is avoided. The polyacrylic acids pref. have a viscosity of 0.09-0.20. The amt. used in 0.05-0.5 wt.% of the alkaline soln. Suitable salts are the sodium, potassium and ammonium salts of the polyacrylic acids. The alkaline solns. partic. contain NaOH or KOH, or alkali carbonates and alkali phosphates, alone or mixed with alkali hydroxide.
|
