The vertical kingpost 10 of a telpherage cable system is supported in a deck fitting 12 having a ring of one or more rotatable fastening bolts 32 which can be turned about pivots 31 to engage in a slot 13a in the base 13 of the post. These bolts are ganged togehter by a toothed ring 33, Fig. 2, so that when one, 32a, is turned by handle 36, they all turn. Beneath the deck fitting is vertical storage trunking 11a into which the post is lowered when not in use. The base of the post is held in spherical bearing 14 which permits swivelling and lateral movement of the post against its stays at 16. A pad-eye 20, vertically movable on rollers 21 is lifted or lowered by chains 21a driven by motor 22 mounted below the base of the post. Rotation of the gear-ring 33 is prevented when the pad-eye is raised, by a detent 38 engaging slot 39. When the pad-eye is down, a buffer 43 depresses the latch bolt 38, releasing the ring for rotation so that the base-bolts 32 may be released. The king-post is lowered by raising the pad-eye up its length by means of the motor 22. The post is likewise raised by means of the pad-eye. The fastening bolts may slide instead of rotate.
