METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CONTROLLING IGNITION TIMING IN A COMPRESSION-IGNITION ENGINE OPERATING IN AN AUTO-IGNITION MODE

A method for controlling ignition timing is provided to control ignition timing of a cylinder charge in a compression ignition engine consisting of an intake valve and an exhaust valve. A method for controlling ignition timing comprises a step of determining fuel charge which it sprays on the cylinder(20) in order to form fuel charge based on the operator torque requirement; a step for determining the desirable ignition timing about the cylinder charge; a partial oxidation step of the fuel charge based on the desirable ignition timing of the cylinder charge; and a step of injecting rest of the fuel charge into the cylinder in the flowing compression stroke.
