PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cake fine particles of carbon to sufficient strength at a low temperature by mixing carbonaceous fine particles having a specified average particle diameter with at least one selected from di- and monosaccharides in a specified ratio, molding and heating the mixture. SOLUTION: An organic material such as oil is carbonized by heat treatment in an inert atmosphere and pulverized to <=1 μm average particle diameter to form carbonaceous fine particles. At least one selected from disaccharides such as sucrose and monosaccharides such as glucose is added by 0.2-2 pts.wt. to 1 pts.wt. of the carbonaceous fine particles, a small amount of water is added and they are sufficiently mixed. The mixture is molded in a sphere, pellet or column shape. When the resultant moldings are heated preferably at 300-500 deg.C, they are caked in about 2 hr. The heating is preferably carried out in a reducing or inert atmosphere. The objective carbonaceous porous body having 0.4 to several nm pore diameter is obtained. |
