In a pump for providing a continuous discharge of sausage mixtures or the like having two or more cylinders, the mixture is drawn from a hopper (12) Fig.2 (not shown), into the cylinders by plungers 18 which discharge the mixture through a common valve 24. The discharge from each successive cylinder is out of phase with at least the preceding cylinder and the valve 24 is actuated so that it is succesively open to one cylinder and closed to the other cylinder or cylinders but is open to more than one cylinder during change from one position to the next. The pistons 18-1, 18-2, 18-3 are directly connected to respective fluid-pressure, e.g. compressed air, actuated motor pistons 30-1, 30-2, 30-3, the rotary valve 24, connected to delivery pipe 25, has ports 34-1, -2, -3 each extending 120 degrees around the valve. The rotation of the valve 24 and the actuation of the pistons 18-1, -2, -3 are synchronized, one port 34 being aligned with one cylinder when the valve is stationary and two ports being in communication with two cylinders during valve rotation, the respective pistons being on their discharge with the ports communicating with the cylinders. The valve 24 is rotated by a chain 38 from a ratchet (40), Fig. 5 (not shown), actuated by a pawl (42), Fig. 6 (not shown), pivoted to a pawl lever (44) operated by the piston (48), Fig. 5, in a fluidpressure cylinder (50). The supply of pressure fluid to the motor cylinders 30 and the ratchet operating cylinder (50), Fig. 5, is from a common supply line (52), Figs. 12 and 13 (not shown). The supply to and exhaust from the cylinders 30 is controlled by valves (6-1, -2, -3), Fig. 5, actuated by cams (80-1, -2, -3) on a shaft (36) connected to the ratchet (40) and the supply to and exhaust from the ratchet operating cylinder (50) is controlled by a valve (54), Fig. 13. The ratchet operating cylinder valve (54) is actuated by fluidpressure under the control of valves (V<SP>2</SP> and V<SP>3</SP>), Fig. 12, actuated by rings (78) on the plungers 18 and cams (80) on the ratchet shaft (36), respectively, and valves (V<SP>4</SP> and V<SP>5</SP>) actuated by a blade (82), Fig. 12, on the rod (46) of the ratchet operating piston (48).
