A control device for a press machine, having a motor, a conversion mechanism having a rotating body rotated by the motor and converting the rotational motion of the rotating body into reciprocating motion, and a slider connected to the conversion mechanism and reciprocating, wherein, when the motor is rotated at a specific command speed, actual torque of the motor varies according to the rotation angle of the rotating body. The control device further has an angle detection device for detecting the rotation angle of the rotating body, a torque determination device for determining, based on the value of a rotation angle inputted from the angle detection device, required motor torque according to characteristics of the press machine, and a speed adjustment device for increasing a rotation command speed of the motor to a level higher than the specific command speed, the speed adjustment device increasing the rotation command speed at the rotation angle of the rotating body at which the required motor torque is smaller than a predetermined motor torque standard value. ® KIPO & WIPO 2009
