A recording medium record/playback method and apparatus are provided to achieve effective control by determining the occurrence of location deviation between a lens unit and a recording medium and the type of the location deviation. A recording medium record/playback apparatus comprises a pick-up unit(100) which irradiates the light to a recording medium and condenses the light reflected and diffracted from the recording medium to generate signal; a signal generator(200) which generates radio frequency signal, and gap error signal and track error signal necessary for control by using the signal generated in the pick-up unit; a controller(300) which receives the signal generated in the signal generator and generates control signal or driving signal; a servo drive unit(400) including a gap servo drive unit(420), a tracking servo drive(440), and a sled servo driving unit(460), receives reproduced data from a decoder(600) and transmits data to be recorded to an encoder(500); an ATAPI(700) which converts and transmits decoded data into protocol of packet form which can be processed in a host. |
