The present invention refers to a process for the recovery of high- and low-molecular mass hydrocarbons, and for the mass reduction of hazardous residues. The process developed in the present invention is carried out using a solvent at supercritical temperature and pressure conditions. The process is useful for recovering hydrocarbons which may be reintroduced into diverse transformation processes such as distillation, they may also be used as fuel, or as a base in the formation of lubricants amongst other industrial processes. The wide range of qualities of the recovered hydrocarbon fractions is due to the selectivity of the process, since all metallic residues and asphalthenic compounds are totally separated from the extracted hydrocarbons. The process of the present invention includes the recirculation of the previously used solvents without generating environmental emissions, recovers non-renewable resources, reduces the mass and volume of solid residues considered as toxic, on th e other hand does not use aggressive or toxic substances to humans and to the environment in general.
