<p>The invention relates to a method for the treatment of tobacco, in particular of Burley tobacco, whereby the tobacco, preferably in the form of leaf tobacco, is treated with a casing, preferably containing sugar. A thermal treatment of the tobacco treated with casing then occurs using saturated steam. Before the treatment, the moisture content of the tobacco is in the range of 15 % to 25 % and after the treatment the moisture content is in the range of 15 % to 25 % and the tobacco temperature is in the range 80 °C to 115 °C.</p> |
