An electrochemical device is provided to improve safety by preventing ignition and explosion when the device is exposed to high temperature or overcharge conditions. An electrochemical device comprises a compound provided therein, wherein the compound releases water at a predetermined temperature(T) or higher. The temperature where the compound discharges water is higher than the normal driving temperature of the device. Particularly, the temperature ranges from 90 to 130 deg.C. The compound releasing water at a predetermined temperature or higher is an ionic bonded compound containing water of crystallization. |
