A system for providing the number of a viewer in an IPTV service and a method thereof are provided to check popularity of contents by checking the number of users who view corresponding contents when a user selects contents. A contents providing server(300) provides various contents. An electronic program guide providing server provides EPG(Electronic Program Guide) information as additional information related to contents. A viewer number statistical server(500) provides statistical data by estimating viewer information of the contents. A user terminal(100) matches viewer number information of the contents received from the viewer number statistical server to display the viewer number information of the contents together with detailed information of the contents.
