It is possible to appropriately recognize a personal face while coping with an external factor such as an imaging environment. A personal identification device includes: a registered data storage unit (120) for storing registered data containing registered user face feature data; a recognition parameter storage unit (122) for storing a recognition parameter; an image judging unit (112) for judging whether an image state of a user face image inputted from an imaging device (110) is appropriate; an adjusting unit (114) for adjusting setting of the imaging device (110) or modifying the recognition parameter according to the judgment result of the image judging unit (112); a feature extraction unit (116) for extracting the user face feature data from the face image; and a face recognizing unit (124) for comparing the extracted feature data to the registered data and recognizing whether the user is a registered user according to the comparison result and the recognition parameter. ® KIPO & WIPO 2009
