<p>A wireless ultrasound probe has a probe case enclosing a transducer array at its distal end, a transceiver, and an antenna at the proximal end of the probe. The antenna exhibits a radiation pattern extending from the longitudinal axis of the probe so as to avoid interference with the hand of the user while the probe is being held in typical orientations during scanning. The antenna preferably projects from the proximal end of the probe so as to discourage a user from holding the probe with a hand wrapped around the proximal end of the probe, which would interfere with transmission to and from the antenna.</p>
