A perpendicular magnetic recording medium and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to improve the recordability of recording medium by irradiating ion to the recording layer to have a plurality of areas with different magnetic anisotropy constant. A perpendicular magnetic recording medium(100), which stores information in a recording layer(170) through perpendicular magnetization, is characterized in that the recording layer includes a plurality of areas formed in the longitudinal direction and the magnetic anisotropy constant of the area in the relatively deep location is bigger than the magnetic anisotropy constant of the other areas.
