PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a check seal structure for opening a valve by a small internal pressure while sufficiently securing a pressure receiving area for receiving the internal pressure capable of withstanding even a significant external pressure. SOLUTION: The check seal structure comprises a rod guide 4 for closing an opening end of a cylinder 1 of a hydraulic shock absorber and an opening end of an outer cylinder 2 covering the cylinder 1 and pivoting a rod 3 movably inserted into the cylinder 1, an annular insert metal 5 laminated on the rod guide 4 and the annular check seal 9 provided on the insert metal 5 abutting on the rod guide 4 to permit only a flow of operating oil from a space A between the rod guide 4 and the insert metal 5 toward a reservoir R formed between the cylinder 1 and the outer cylinder 2. Herein, a projection 9a contacting with the rod guide 4 is provided at a tip end of the check seal 9 and a step part 4g regulating reflex of the check seal 9 to an internal circumferential side by engaging with the projection 9a of the check seal 9 is provided at the rod guide 4.
