PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for a valve gear capable of inhibiting wrong renewal of the position of a control shaft caused by temperature change of an actuator. SOLUTION: The valve gear for an internal combustion engine includes the control shaft 54 driven in a movable range and an actuator 60 lubricated by lubricant, and changes valve characteristics of the internal combustion engine through driving the control shaft 54 by the actuator 60. The control device for the valve gear is provided with a calculation means calculating absolute position of the control shaft 54 based on a reference position and displacement from the reference position, and a learning means displacing the actuator 60 to an end of the movable range and executing absolute position learning renewing the absolute position calculated when drive of the actuator 60 is stopped to a position corresponding to the end, when predetermined learning conditions are satisfied. Absolute position learning by the learning means is prohibited when temperature of the actuator 60 is lower than predetermined lower limit temperature. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
