The method involves determining a location data by a Global positioning system receiver (3) with a masuring frequency. The location data is sent to an evaluation unit (2). The evaluation unit evaluates the number of satellite signals which are recorded. The location data is evaluated in two dimension and three-dimension forms. The determined distance is transmitted to a center by a Global system for mobile communication module (4). An independent claim is also included for a device for determining the mileage range of a vehicle.
