The device has a feed pump (4) for feeding fuel from a fuel tank (3) to a high pressure pump (8) over a supply pipeline (6). A return pipe (11) is provided for unnecessary fuel and starts from the high pressure pump. The return pipe discharges into the fuel tank and has a branch connection (13), which leads to an auxiliary pump (12) that is connected to the supply pipeline over a junction (14). A fuel filter (7) is provided in the supply pipeline. The auxiliary pump is arranged between the return pipe and the supply pipeline. An independent claim is also included for a method for supplying fuel of internal combustion engine.
