<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make compatible both the use and protection of the digital contents, by protecting its contents from unauthorized use, even when the contents have been recorded on an open recording media such as a hard disk drive. <P>SOLUTION: A secure manager 112 manages encipherment/decoding of the contents by using media ID with every recording media for recording the contents, when using the recording media 116 and 117 having the media ID. Meanwhile, when using an HDD 115 having no media ID, the secure manager 112 acquires system proper device ID via BIOS, and manages the encipherment/decoding of the contents recording on the HDD 115 by using its device ID.
