PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an exhaust gas cleaning catalyst which carries platinum on a carrier in a highly dispersed state, and inhibits sintering of the platinum at high temperature to provide excellent durability. SOLUTION: In the manufacturing method of the exhaust gas cleaning catalyst, platinum is supported on a carrier containing a basic oxide, and then the platinum-supported carrier is subjected to heat treatment at≥500°C and≤800°C in an oxygen-containing atmosphere.
