PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce cost and capacity by reducing structure components of a power supply in a gate drive circuit and those of a power supply in a control circuit. SOLUTION: The matrix converter is provided with a snubber circuit suppressing overvoltage at the time of interrupting a gate of a switching element of the matrix converter by a rectifying mechanism and a capacitor Cb common to respective phases, an AC backup charging circuit where the capacitor is preliminarily charged by resistors R1 to R3 and switches S1 to S3, which are arranged between an AC power supply and the snubber circuit, and a switching regulator SR for obtaining the power supplies of the gate drive circuit and the control circuit of the switching element of a main circuit. AC power supplies are supplied to the power supply of the gate drive circuit and the power supply of the control circuit with the capacitor of the snubber circuit as a DC power supply.
